About the Position:
The Institute of Geosciences at Heidelberg University is looking for a qualified and motivated Technical Employee to join the team at the Heidelberg Ion Probe Laboratory (HIP). This laboratory is home to one of the most advanced ion microprobe instruments (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry, SIMS) in Germany and plays a key role in geoscientific research.
The successful candidate will work closely with scientists and researchers to ensure the smooth operation and technical advancement of the laboratory. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a cutting-edge research environment with strong international connections.
Your Main Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for several important tasks that are essential for the successful daily operations of the HIP Lab:
- Maintain and service laboratory instruments:
You will help with the regular maintenance and repair of sensitive, high-precision scientific equipment. This includes working with complex instruments such as the SIMS and related systems. - Assist researchers during data acquisition:
You will support visiting scientists and researchers who come to the lab to perform experiments. You will help them use the equipment and ensure data is collected accurately and safely. - Technical support for lab infrastructure and IT systems:
You will manage and troubleshoot technical problems related to the lab’s infrastructure, including electronics and computer systems. This might include maintaining network systems, backing up data, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. - Help improve lab systems and operations:
You will be encouraged to bring ideas and solutions to improve lab procedures and work collaboratively with the research team to implement new developments.
Who We’re Looking For:
We are looking for someone with both the technical knowledge and the enthusiasm to work in a highly specialized scientific environment. The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:
- Educational Background:
You must have a degree or strong training in a technical or scientific subject. Suitable fields include geosciences, physics, engineering, materials science, or similar areas. - Hands-on Experience:
Experience working with complex laboratory instruments is essential. Previous experience with SIMS or other high-vacuum, high-precision analytical equipment is a strong advantage. - Language Skills:
You must be fluent in English, as this is the main working language of the laboratory. Knowledge of German is helpful but not required. - Personal Skills:
We are looking for a person with team spirit, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. You should also be curious and open to learning new things.
