Team Overview:
The Global Markets Team (GMT) at CHAI is responsible for improving health commodity markets. They work on market shaping interventions like pooled procurement, demand forecasting, and innovative agreements with suppliers to ensure affordable and high-quality health commodities in low- and middle-income countries.
Position Overview:
CHAI is looking for a highly motivated, analytical, and entrepreneurial individual to join their Global Markets Team. The Associate will support key health commodity markets, including TB, HIV, non-communicable diseases, and nutrition, focusing on improving access to essential health products in Southern Africa. This role involves building strong relationships with suppliers and governments to ensure the uninterrupted supply of affordable medicines and medical products.
Responsibilities:
- Support the team in analyzing and evaluating market interventions for health commodities.
- Develop a detailed understanding of supplier dynamics (pricing, market share, product development timelines, etc.).
- Collaborate with teams to develop market insights, support negotiations, and help reduce product pricing.
- Build relationships with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in low- and middle-income markets.
- Provide support to local stakeholders and help in addressing supplier-related requirements.
- Support disease teams in analyzing costs, negotiating pricing, and ensuring product availability.
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external audiences, including donors.
- Assist in building a comprehensive database of pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors.
- Support the Department of Health in forecasting health commodity needs.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Public Health, or related fields.
- At least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong analytical skills, with advanced experience in Excel (modeling) and PowerPoint.
- Proven ability to work independently and solve complex problems in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills for building relationships in multi-cultural settings.
- Preferred experience in management consulting, investment banking, supply chain, or the pharmaceutical/medical device industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to navigate complex governmental and organizational processes.
