The municipality is looking for experienced engineering professionals for the role of Assistant Manager: Water Network in the Technical Services Department. This key position ensures the integrity, functionality, and compliance of the municipal water distribution network.


Position Overview
The Assistant Manager: Water Network will manage the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the municipal water infrastructure. The role involves leading the technical team, overseeing maintenance programs, and ensuring adherence to national water regulations. The goal is to provide clean, safe, and continuous water supply to the community.


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or 7) in Engineering or a water-related field
  • Eligible for professional registration with a recognised body
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in water infrastructure, including 3 years at a supervisory level
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Blue Drop certification standards and water legislation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the maintenance and repair of water infrastructure
  • Implement maintenance programs for water networks
  • Manage sectional budgets and ensure accountability
  • Enforce by-laws related to water use and service delivery
  • Prepare technical and performance reports for Council and government
  • Supervise the Water Network section and manage team performance
  • Oversee complex engineering projects and planning
  • Monitor contractor performance and material supply management

Occupational Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge in water infrastructure systems
  • Experience in municipal infrastructure management
  • Familiarity with Blue Drop standards and water compliance
  • Supervisory and budgeting skills
  • Proficiency in engineering software and project coordination
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects efficiently
